There is only one time to get the planner right, and only one day that has to feel as you have been imagining it. I look at whether a planner would actually look after you and your guests — the timing, the tone, the details that make a Caribbean weekend yours rather than a template. A decade of planning around people, when the day cannot be repeated, is how I judge that. My part of the recommendation is to protect the dream, not only the schedule.

The risks are real, and they are rarely in the photographs: a fee that does not cover the work, nobody clearly owning the wedding day, guests who cannot reach the venue, weather with no backup you would actually use. I have spent more than a decade bringing structure to decisions like this — identifying what is evidenced, what is still unknown, and where you would be exposed after you appoint. That is the value I bring: you see those risks while you can still choose, not after deposits have been paid abroad.
